Learn how Zenefits Business Intelligence app calculates turnover.
First it is important to note:
- You can select the Time duration for which you need the turnover chart from the Time dropdown. divide this time into multiple periods for example monthly, weekly based on selected Time value.
- You can also select a Segment (Department, Location, Team, Termination Type) for which you want to plot a chart.
Example: Turnover Chart Time Segment Example
For each Segment value in each Time period, turnover is calculated using the formula given below and plotting on the graph:
turnoverRate = (separationsDuringPeriod / averageEmployeesDuringPeriod) * 100
- averageEmployeesDuringPeriod = ((employeesAtStartOfPeriod + employeesAtEndOfPeriod) / 2)
Note: If averageEmployeesDuringPeriod is 0 then assign value 1 to it.
- separationsDuringPeriod = Number of employees Departed in the period.
- employeesAtStartOfPeriod = Number of employees working at the start of the period.
- employeesAtEndOfPeriod = Number of employees working at the end of the period.
Below is an example to illustrate how we calculate turnover.
- Segment = Location
- Time = 3 months
Example: Turnover Chart Caculation Example
There are 2 locations selected in the filter section for the Month of June, which is broken down below:
Location: D.C. Office
- employeesAtEndOfPeriod = 25
- employeesAtStartOfPeriod = 26
- separationsDuringPeriod = 1
- averageEmployeesDuringPeriod = (25+ 26)/ 2 = 25. 5
- turnoverRate = (1 / 25. 5 ) * 100 = 3 .92%
Location: Denver Office
- employeesAtEndOfPeriod = 129
- employeesAtStartOfPeriod = 130
- separationsDuringPeriod = 5
- averageEmployeesDuringPeriod = (129 + 130)/ 2 = 129. 5
- turnoverRate = (5 / 129. 5 ) * 100 = 3 .86%
