Glasses Frame Benefits and Vision Insurance

The glasses frame benefit for a vision plan is the amount an insurance company will cover when an enrollee purchases a pair of glasses frames.

You can view your plan's glasses frame coverage by clicking on the Vision Insurance app. The information is located under the Benefits Summary on the Vision Overview page.

This frame benefit does not include the lenses: that is a separate expense and thus a separate benefit. Read more about lens benefits here: Lens Benefits and Vision Insurance

Understanding the Frame Benefit

The frame benefit may be a flat amount (i.e. $130 total) or a percentage of the total cost. Many plans also have frequency limits.

Example:

  • A vision plan covers $130 for frames over 24 months.
  • An enrollee purchases a pair of $120 glasses frames in the first 12 months.
  • The enrollee will only have $10 left of coverage for the remaining 12 months.
