Contact Lens Benefits and Vision Insurance

The contact lens benefit for a vision plan is the amount an insurance company will cover when an enrollee purchases contact lenses. You can view your plan's contact lens coverage by clicking on the Vision Insurance app. The information is located under the Benefits Summary on the Vision Overview page.

This contact lens benefit is different than lenses included in a pair of glasses. Read more about lens benefits here: Lens Benefits and Vision Insurance

Understanding the Contact Lens Benefit

The contact lens benefit may be a flat amount (i.e. $130 total) or a percentage of the total cost. Many plans also have frequency limits.

Example:

  • A vision plan covers $130 for contact lenses over 24 months.
  • An enrollee purchases $120 worth of contact lenses in the first 12 months.
  • The enrollee will only have $10 left of coverage to put towards contact lenses for the remaining 12 months.
