Managing Garnishments in Zenefits Payroll

Garnishments can easily be added to individual workers' pay templates in Zenefits Payroll. Here's an overview of how to add garnishments in Zenefits Payroll. To learn more about garnishments in general, see these FAQs.

To add a garnishment to a worker's pay template, you can follow the steps below:

  1. From your admin dashboard, click on the Payroll app.
  2. Click into the People tab.
  3. Select the person for whom you're adding a garnishment.
  4. Scroll down to +Add Garnishment.
  5. Select the type of garnishment as outlined on the order.
  6. Fill out the fields, using the Garnishments FAQ as needed.
  7. Indicate if you'd like Zenefits to remit the payment, or only calculate and the company will remit.**
  8. Sequence the orders if there are multiple.
  9. Save.
This will now be a recurring garnishment. Once you are ready to remove the garnishment from the worker's wages, simply go back into their Pay Template using steps 1-3 above, and press the edit icon. From the pop up window, you'll click Delete Garnishment.

**Zenefits is beginning to assist with remitting some types of garnishment payments. If you are adding a Child Support Garnishment into the system, you may have the ability to change the Service Level. If you change it to Payment Enabled, Zenefits can remit the payment on your behalf. If Service Level stays locked on Calculation Only, Zenefits cannot yet assist with remitting to that agency. We'll keep you apprised of any updates to this.
