Can I Prorate Tenure Milestones in My Time Off Policy?

Administrators are able to decide how they would like Zenefits to calculate time off accrual when someone's milestone occurs during an accrual period. Administrators can choose to allow for these workers to start accruing their new rate on their milestone date, or they can choose to start at the beginning of the next accrual period.

On Their Milestone Date:

If someone's milestone occurs during an accrual period, they will accrue time off at their initial rate until they reach their milestone. After reaching their milestone date, they will accrue at the new rate.

For example, if an employee accrues 5 hours per month before their milestone and 6 hours per month after their milestone, the employee will accrue at 5 hours per month for the first part of the accrual period and 6 hours per month for the remainder of the period for a total of 5.5 hours accrued that period.

Beginning of the Next Accrual Period:

If someone's milestone occurs within an accrual period, they will accrue time off at their initial rate for the entire accrual period. Beginning with the start of the accrual period following their milestone, they will begin accruing time off at their new rate.
