FAQs About Medicare

Creditable coverage for Medicare is prescription drug coverage that is expected to pay on average as much as the standard Medicare prescription drug coverage. Individuals who are enrolled in a group health plan, such as employer-sponsored coverage or union coverage, will receive an annual notice confirming whether or not that coverage is considered "creditable." These notices need to be delivered by the plan administrator by October 15th of each year.

Creditable prescription drug coverage is coverage for prescriptions that is expected to pay, on average, the same as or more than Medicare Part D's coverage. Creditable prescription drug coverage is often employer-sponsored coverage, or coverage through a union.

Medicare Part D is an individual prescription drug plan offered to individuals eligible for Medicare. Part D differs from parts A, B, and C in that it is exclusively prescription drug focused, but can be combined with certain Medicare health plans that don't include prescription coverage already.

The open enrollment period for Medicare, including Part D, is held annually, from October 15th to December 7th of each year. Individuals who are currently enrolled in Medicare or who are newly Medicare-eligible can participate in Open Enrollment outside of Zenefits. See Medicare.gov for more information about Medicare Open Enrollment.

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Those who qualify for Medicare can join Part D if they are enrolled in Medicare Part A or Part B and do not already have existing creditable prescription drug coverage.

Zenefits is not able to advise, direct, or in any way recommend any information to clients, prospects, or the general public on any Medicare plans available on the open market. Distribution, sale, and discussion of any Medicare products require annual special training and certification from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the insurance carriers distributing these policies.

We advise reaching out to your broker, insurance carrier, and/or Medicare/Medicaid Services in order to get the best advice and information.
