Bundling Benefits Plans

Some carriers offer packages of health plans that are bundled together. This means that admins select a few lines of coverage to offer to their workforce, which become bundled together. If employees choose to enroll in one line, they must enroll in all lines offered by the same carrier -- if one line of coverage is selected, all must be selected.

Zenefits supports bundling for Medical, Dental, and Vision lines of coverage. We do not support bundling for Life and Disability.

Bundling is maintained in the Zenefits system at a carrier level. When creating a plan, brokers will select a carrier in the system that allows bundling, such as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. In the drop down of available carriers, it will show (Bundled) next to the carrier name.

The plan build process is exactly the same as the standard plan build process. The rates for each medical, dental, or vision enrollment will be entered into each plan load as usual.

In the individual enrollment flow, there are validations built in that will flag anyone who has not enrolled in or declined the bundled lines of coverage. The enrollment flow can't be completed until the individual enrolls in or declines all bundled lines of coverage. This is also true for any dependents enrolled.

From the Overview page of the Benefits Administration app, the benefits listed will appear as normal without any denotation of plan bundling.

The Plans & Carriers tab will also appear as normal. The only time that you will see bundled plans marked as such, is during the initial plan build when the broker selects the carrier.

The best way to determine if plans are bundled is to clarify directly with your broker.
